Don't Lose Your Voice - Look out for your Voter Registration

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council are urging local residents not to lose their voice on decisions that affect them by making sure their electoral registration details are up to date. Changes to the canvass process this year mean that residents may receive an email or text message about this for the first time.

With Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner, County Councillor and Borough Councillor elections taking place in May 2021, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part.

Walking to the Menin Gate

Horley Town Mayor, Cllr David Powell and his fellow walkers; Terry Boardman, Tony Keay and Bob Jenkinson are continuing their efforts to raise money for the rebuilding of the Earl Haig Sports and Social Club which was destroyed in a fire earlier this year. The club was the headquarters of the local Royal British Legion.

Between them, despite a combined age of 308, they have now walked over 339 laps of the Horley Recreation Ground as they attempt to walk the equivalent distance of Horley to the Menin Gate in Belgium.  They have been joined by supporters who have added another 370 laps to the total so far.

The walkers are aiming to have completed their laps by mid September in their attempts to raise £71,000.

If you would like to help with the fund raising donations can be made online through their GoFundMe page.

Residents' Views Sought on Controlled Dog Spaces

Residents and visitors are being asked to share their views on the renewing of Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO) used to control the behaviour of dogs in the borough’s parks and green spaces.

Many of the orders have already been in place for three years. Prior to this, some were known as Dog Control Orders (DCO). The renewal of the PSPOs must now be consulted on before the Council can decide whether to renew them.  There are currently over 90 specific orders in place across the borough’s parks and green spaces due for review, as well as some new ones.

The Leaders of Surrey’s 11 district and borough councils today launch their ‘Putting Residents First’ campaign to transform local government in the county and bring decision making and services close to communities.

Work has started on proposals for a modern approach to local government, to be shared with central Government as part of the debate on its anticipated ‘Recovery and Devolution’ white paper this autumn. The white paper signals its desire to reform local government – an opportunity Surrey’s district and borough councils are eager and enthusiastic to embrace.
