Meet Gemma Charnock  


We’re delighted to introduce Gemma as the new Independent Chair of the Neath Port Talbot Culture Partnership.


As Chair, Gemma will help guide the Partnership in progressing the Neath Port Talbot Culture Strategy and delivering the community’s vision and ambitions for culture in the years ahead.
The Partnership is also the delivery body overseeing Port Talbot’s bid to become UK Town of Culture 2028.

Throughout the bid process from September to November 2026, there will be a series of community engagement events held to help shape the bid.

New £1.2M fund to support community wellbeing activities across NPT 

The £1.2M TSUK Mental Health & Well-being Community Fund, funded through the Tata Steel Transition programme, will invest in local projects that help people, families and communities respond positively to the challenges created by recent changes, while building stronger and more connected communities for the future. 

The new fund will provide grants of up to £50,000 to eligible organisations delivering community-led initiatives within Neath Port Talbot. Projects can receive up to 100 per cent funding, with support available for both revenue and capital costs.

📢 Third Sector Grant Scheme Opens for Applications 📢

Local charities, voluntary organisations and community groups across Neath Port Talbot are being invited to apply for a share of a £575,000 grant scheme.

 

The Third Sector Grant Scheme application process opens on Thursday 24 September 2026, marking the start of a new funding programme designed to support third sector organisations that deliver vital services and activities for local communities.

🏊‍♀️ £3.3 Million Boost for Neath Port Talbot Leisure Facilities 🏊‍♀️

Residents across Neath Port Talbot could benefit from more than £3.3 million of investment in local leisure facilities, with plans to modernise centres, expand fitness opportunities and improve wellbeing services.

Proposed improvements include:

🔹A new Reformer Pilates studio and gym extension at Aberavon Leisure Centre
🔹A major redevelopment at Pontardawe Leisure Centre
🔹New padel courts at Neath Sports Centre
🔹Gym upgrades at the Vale of Neath Leisure Centre.

The programme aims to increase participation in sport and physical activity while supporting the long-term sustainability of leisure services across the county borough

Residents aged 16 and over are invited to take part in the Let's Talk: Living in NPT 2026 survey and share their views on council services, local priorities and life in the county borough.

 

Feedback from previous surveys has helped shape major investments, including the £4.5 million Neighbourhood Improvement Plan and ongoing town centre regeneration projects.

The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and closes on 27 October 2026.
