Summer Ordinariate Celebrations

There are three opportunities for Ordinariate groups and individuals to gather together in the summer.   Firstly the Ordinariate in Brentwood is holding a thanksgiving Mass in Brentwood Cathedral  on Saturday June 8th at 12:30pm. Mgr Newton will be the celebrant.

Three weeks later, on Saturday June 29th, there is a day of celebration in the Midlands beginning with a Mass at St Joseph’s Church, Brockhurst Lane, Monks Kirby CV23 0RA.  Click the image on the left for a larger version of the poster with details of the day.

Finally, on Saturday 13th July there is an Ordinariate pilgrimage to Canterbury.  Mass in St Augustine's college at 11:30 am will be followed by a talk on Cardinal Pole by the world famous scholar Professor Eamon Duffy.  The pllgrims will then attend evensong at the Cathedral and will visit to Pole's tomb for an act of devotion.

First Ordinariate Use Mass in Russia...

The very first Ordinariate Use Mass in Russia was offered on May 8th by Fr John Boyle JCL in the Crypt Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral in Moscow.   Pictured are members of the Moscow Ordinariate Support Group.  Thanks to Ivan Fadeyev for the information.

...and in China

Deacon Stephen Morgan, a good friend of the Ordinariate, is currently serving as Dean of the Faculty of Religious Studies at the University of St Joseph in Macau.  Professor Morgan reports that he assisted at what is presumably the first Mass according to Divine Worship:the Missal on Chinese soil for a group of Ordinariate pilgrims in Macau for the procession of Our Lady of Fatima.

Annual Ordinariate Walsingham Pilgrimage

The annual Walsingham pilgrimage takes place on Saturday 22nd June beginning at the Anglican shrine in the village and then processing along the Holy Mile to the Basilica for lunch and then Mass.

Ordinariate Central Church to host St Barnabas Society Mass

The St Barnabas Society gives pastoral and financial help to non-Catholic clergy and religious who have asked to be received into the Catholic Church.  It continues the work of the Converts Aid Society which was founded in 1896.  When Anglican clergy give up their posts to embrace the fullness of the Catholic faith the Society provides crucial support and it has been very generous to Ordinariate clergy and their families.

We are therefore delighted that the Society will be holding their Annual Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption in Warwick Street on Tuesday 11th June at 7pm.  For catering purposes the Society ask that you let them know if you will be attending (office@stbarnabassociety.org.uk).

Newman Lectures at Oscott College

Leading up to the canonisation of Blessed John Henry Newman a series of talks on his life and work will be held at  St Mary's College Oscott, Chester Road, Sutton Coldfield B73 5AA on the evenings of 19, 20 and 21 June.  Each evening runs from 6:30-9:00 and costs £5 per evening which includes a buffet supper.

Speakers include Prof. Judith Champ, Mgr Roderick Strange, Fr Guy Nicholls, Dr Mary McCaughley and Fr Peter Conley.   Further details will be posted on the Ordinariate website next week.

Updated Norms for the Ordinariates

In April Pope Francis approved new Complementary Norms governing the activities of the Ordinariates.  The changes largely bring together in one place existing practices and the rules contained in the various liturgical books.

The new rules make it clear that Christians from any non-Catholic community - not just Anglicans - are able become members of the Ordinariates as well as those Catholics who have not completed the Sacraments of Initiation or who are members of Ordinariate families.
