Welcome to the latest edition of our South and Vale Business Support newsletter!

In this newsletter you'll find details of how to apply to current grant schemes available from South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils.

Available schemes include:
  • Christmas Support Payment for wet-led pubs
  • Local Restrictions Grant for businesses required to close due to current local restrictions (rate paying businesses only)
  • Local Restrictions Support Grant for businesses that were required to close during the national lockdown from 5 November to 1 December (rate paying businesses only)
Please note that the Local Restrictions Support Grant for all businesses that remain open, but whose trade is severely impacted by the ongoing restrictions, is not yet available. This scheme is expected to launch in January. Please keep an eye on future SVBS newsletters for details.

We recognise that the current range of grant schemes available may be difficult for businesses to navigate. If you need advice or assistance in understanding the range of support, please contact us

Please note that we will be taking some time off from 23 December until 4 January. If you have a query during this time, please send us an email and we will respond on our return.
For more details and to apply, please visit the appropriate council’s website via the links below.

Please ensure you apply under the correct district’s scheme.

The Christmas Support Payment (CSP) supports wet-led pubs that have been severely impacted over the Christmas period due to local restrictions.

The one-off grant provides £1,000 to pubs that receive less than 50 per cent of their income from food sales.

Applications for the Christmas Support Payment for Wet-Led Pubs are now open and close on 31 January 2021.

Eligibility

Your pub may be eligible if you:
  • are based in England

  • derive less than 50% of your sales from food

  • are in an area subject to Tier 2 or Tier 3 local restrictions since 2 December 2020

  • were established in the pub before 1 December 2020

Businesses excluded from the fund

You cannot get funding if your business:

  • has exceeded the permitted state aid threshold (The Christmas Support Payment (CSP) counts towards the total de minimis state aid you’re allowed to get over a 3 year period – €200,000)

  • is in administration, insolvent or has been struck off the Companies House register

The Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed – Local Restrictions) provides up to £1,500 every 14 days for rate paying businesses only that are temporarily required to close, or where the substantive element of their business has to close under local restrictions.

As an example of a substantive element of a business being forced to close, if a pub only serves drinks it has to shut, but it can still offer a click and collect service, the ratepayer for the pub can apply for this scheme.

This grant is available while the Tier 2 local restrictions remain in place in South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse.

Eligibility

Your business may be eligible if it:
  • is based in England

  • occupies property on which it pays business rates (and is the ratepayer)

  • is in an area of local Tier 2 or Tier 3 restrictions and has been required to close because of local restrictions that resulted in a first full day of closure on or after 9 September

  • has been required to close for at least 14 days because of the restrictions

  • has been unable to provide its usual in-person customer service from its premises

Businesses excluded from the fund

You cannot get funding if:

  • you can continue to operate during the period of restrictions because you do not depend on providing direct in-person services from your premises (for example, accountants)

  • local restrictions are introduced for less than 14 days or you are closed for less than 14 days

  • you have chosen to close, but have not been required to close as part of local restrictions

  • your business has been subject to national closures, since 23 March 2020, such as nightclubs (these are eligible for other grant support)

  • you have exceeded the permitted state aid threshold (this scheme counts towards the total de minimis state aid you’re allowed to get over a 3 year period – €200,000)

The
Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed Premises) is for businesses that are registered for business rates and have been legally required to close a substantive part of their premises due to the national restrictions that ran from 5 November to 1 December 2020.

This grant is also available to businesses that closed their main operation but still offered take-away or click and collect services from their premises.
Businesses with more than one qualifying property will receive more than one grant.
