Welcome to the latest edition of the SVBS newsletter.

This week, we're focusing on OxLEP's new Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Grant Scheme, new Government funding to boost UK business exports, our ShopAppy scheme and how your business can sell to the councils.

We're also highlighting our next Networking in... event with Rhys Saunders of 'Lick Me, I'm Delicious', who will be talking about experiences and why they mean so much.

There are lots more opportunities, events and resources to get stuck into this week, but as always, if you'd like to suggest content for the SVBS newsletter, please get in touch with us.

Latest OxLEP grant scheme set to support Oxfordshire businesses to embrace apprenticeship provision

The OxLEP Business and OxLEP Skills teams have joined forces to announce the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Grant Scheme, which will see grants from £1,000 to £1,500 made available to eligible Oxfordshire-based businesses.

The scheme will be formally-announced on an online webinar that will outline how the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Grant scheme can be used in supporting an Oxfordshire resident to start an Apprenticeship, or support retention to enable an Apprentice to complete their Apprenticeship.

Date and time:
Wednesday 10 August
12pm - 12:45pm

There are at least 400 Apprenticeship vacancies in Oxfordshire, providing opportunities to develop skills and a future in a wide range of careers. However, many Oxfordshire businesses struggle to fill their Apprenticeship opportunities, so the main aim of the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Grant scheme is to help remove barriers for residents to take up an Apprenticeship.

Find out more and register for the webinar on OxLEP's website.
New funding to boost UK business exports abroad through the recognition of professional qualifications

UK professionals looking to work abroad will benefit from new funding for regulators and professional bodies through the Recognition Arrangements Grants Programme.

The programme will provide grants of up to £75,000 to develop recognition arrangements with international counterparts and ensure British professionals have their qualifications recognised overseas.

Organisations eligible to apply for funding are:
  • Regulators that control access to professions regulated in law (when access to the profession is limited by legislation, or by provisions made under and given effect to by legislation to individuals who hold specific qualifications or experience)

  • Professional bodies that award professional titles and voluntarily regulate professions without underpinning legislation, for example chartered professional bodies
Further information and an expression of interest form can be found on the Government's website.
ShopAppy to launch in Abingdon, Botley and Didcot

Following the success of our ShopAppy online marketplace for independent High Street businesses in Thame and Wantage, we'll soon be launching in Abingdon, Botley and Didcot.

Our partnership with ShopAppy aims to consolidate local, independent businesses on a single online marketplace, allowing residents access to a platform through which they can purchase goods from South and Vale based businesses.

The platform will be free for the area’s businesses to access over the first 12 months of the scheme (excluding bank / card charges). Best of all, businesses will only need to allocate 20 minutes a week to managing their profile.

If you're based in any of the above towns and you'd like to get involved, find out how on our website.
Selling to the councils - register for the
South East Business Portal

The councils buy goods and services from a variety of contractors, ranging from someone who is self-employed to national organisations. To provide cost-effective services for our residents, the councils often operate a joint procurement process, and therefore award joint contracts.

Opportunities to supply your services or goods to the councils are often available, either direct or as a sub-contractor.

If you are interested in selling to the councils, you will need to register on the South East Business Portal. Please note that contracts for both councils can be located under 'South Oxfordshire District Council'.

You can also find a list of contracts that will shortly be up for renewal on South Oxfordshire District Council's website.

Further information can be found on our dedicated webpage.
