Planning - have your say

Do you have an opinion about a planning application up for consideration in your local neighbourhood?

You are most welcome to attend the public forum held at the beginning of all our Planning Committee meetings to let Councillors know your views.  Agendas, including the planning list for consideration are published on the website on the Thursday prior to the meeting.

Just give the office a call to let us know you would like to attend on 01293 784765 or you can email us at   info@horleysurrey-tc.gov.uk
Calling Green Fingered Residents of Landen Park

If anyone would like to help create a small wild-flower bed in Horley, the residents of Landen Park Village Green would love to hear from you.

The task, on Saturday 5th October, will mainly involve removing a layer of grass turf in a small area of lawn and then digging over the ground ready for sowing some wild flower seeds (that the residents have already bought).

If you have your own spade (or fork) and want to help out, then please contact the residents at landenparkvillagegreen@gmail.com  alternatively, if you need to borrow a spade in advance, please contact Kevin Lewill at KevinLerwill@sussexwt.org.uk.

Have you heard about Furnistore?
Furnistore is a reuse charity that helps low income families in East Surrey to furnish their homes.

Founded in 1995, their warehouse in Redhill stocks a wide range of quality and affordable furniture and white goods. 'When you buy from us, you’re helping someone who is struggling to afford the basics. When you donate to us, you’re also recycling furniture items that otherwise would probably have ended up as landfill.

To provide this service, we rely on a team of volunteers. We support them with on--the-job and bespoke training, as well as regular appraisals. By doing this, we help them into the world of work and actively encourage them to find sustainable employment, should they wish to do so.

In short, we are the little charity with a big heart.'

Telephone 01737 773133 or visit their website furnistore.co.uk. They are open from Monday to Saturday, 10am – 4pm.

Could you be a CARBS adviser or admin support?

Citizens Advice Reigate and Banstead wants to appoint a number of new volunteer advisers to help them meet growing demand.'If you’re willing to train and could offer one day a week, we’d love to hear from you.

You need to be patient and a good listener, able to work in a team, and confident in written English, basic maths and information technology.  Our trained and knowledgeable advisers allow CARBS to offer free, independent advice to everyone in need.

We’re also looking for new volunteers to help with essential admin/IT support on one or more days a week.' Click on this link to learn more

As Head of Leisure for Horley Town Council I would like to thank this year’s sponsors for their donations towards the Summer planting, it really does make a huge difference to us.  As I am sure everyone will appreciate, we haven’t been able to provide our usual display in the Precinct this year, due to the ongoing refurbishment works, however we have now been able to put up the hanging baskets, which has really brightened up the area.  The planters and baskets around the rest of the town have been quite spectacular, so much so that we have had trouble trying to find spaces on the planters to put up our sponsorship plaques!  I would like to personally thank this year’s sponsors:

Cllr David Powell
Cllr Simon Marshall
Cllr Kay Hammond
Collingwood Batchellor
Mitchells of Horley
Regency Grove Communications

All our sponsors will be invited to our Horley in Bloom Awards Ceremony, due to be held at Regent Hall on Friday 4 October.

Carol Fenton, Head of Leisure, Horley Town Council.

Horley Conservation Group

A great big thank you to all those that came to The Fieldings on Saturday 17th August (The picture of at the top of this newsletter is from the orchard at The Fieldings)

The team of volunteers raked off the cuttings from the Community Orchard and filled 5 large builders’ sacks, which the Reigate & Banstead Borough Council have agreed to collect as soon as possible. If done after each cut, this will encourage a wider range of wild flowers to grow between the fruit trees.

Some of the colunteers also carried out a litter pick in and around Tanyard pond and collected 2 black bags full of rubbish and a set of plastic garden chairs from the pond. The Willows by the boardwalk next to Tanyard pond were also cut back.

The next HCG session is at Riverside Garden Park on Saturday 14th September, when they will be assisting the Horley Piscatorial Society with some bank-side scrub clearance.

Finally, a reminder that the Autumn Horley Conservation Group evening meeting will take place at the Trinity Oaks Primary School again on Monday 7th October at 6pm

Friends and family are welcome to attend and if you have anything to add to the agenda before, then please drop Kevin a line by email at KevinLerwill@sussexwt.org.uk
