Councillor Profiles

For the next few months the newsletter will be featuring profiles of Horley Town Councillors. This month we feature Cllr Mike George

Mike became a town councillor in 2003 as a Residents Association councillor representing the then Horley North West Ward now the Horley West Ward. He has always believed that he should represent the ward in which he lives. Mike moved to Horley from Southampton in 1969 to take up a new job at Gatwick Airport and retired in 2012 after a forty seven year career in aviation.

Mike is currently chairman of the Planning & Development Committee and takes a great interest in all planning matters that affect Horley and represents the council on the Gatwick Airport Consultative Committee [GATCOM]. In addition to his council duties Mike is also the Chairman of the Court Lodge Residents Association, a Governor at Manorfield Primary & Nursery School and President of Horley Town Football Club.

With his partner Sue they have raised a family of a daughter and two sons in the town and are now proud grandparents to two granddaughters. Most of Mike’s extended family live in the town or surrounding area.

Mike has always been deeply passionate about Horley being a great place to live and what it offers the community.
Safety Survey

Surrey Police are asking women living in Surrey to participate in our survey regarding safety in the county. Those of you who identify as women are welcome to fill out the survey here.
Cafe in the Park Opens for Outdoor Customers

The Farmyard Kitchen (TFK) at the Cafe in the Park has successfully opened for its first outdoor customers this month. The Council and TFK were delighted with the vast turn out of customers and the very positive feedback received on social media about the new Café.  A note of sincere thanks is also extended to Chris Tollast who has provided an impressive series of photographs during every stage of the build, right through to completion which will eventually be shown on our website. (Final picture shown above)

All going well, it is hoped that a full service can begin from 17th May. Once all the restrictions are lifted as expected on 21st June, the grand opening of the Café will be arranged shortly after and further details will be provided in due course. Guidance on social gatherings will continue to be followed during the event for everyone’s safety.
