NATIONAL FITNESS DAY CHALLENGE RESULTS!
On 18 September we ran our annual RAF Inter-Facility Challenge with Myzone in celebration of National Fitness Day. Encouraging as many people to get as physically active as possible, we challenged Myzone users to earn as many MEPs (Myzone Effort Points) as they could during a 24hr period to help their facility compete for the challenge trophy.

Having adjusted the scores to only include individuals who earned 100+ MEPS and dividing the total points earned by the number taking part to keep the challenge as fair as possible no matter the facility size, RAF Brize Norton proudly topped the leaderboard this year with a strong team of 39 and a collective average of 287 MEPs!

Special shoutouts also go to the Central Fund facility who came a close second, RAF Akrotiri third and RAF Benson fourth.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Challenge this year, we hope that the event encouraged you to get active and have fun doing so! If you're interested in tracking your exercise with Myzone, please see our offers at the bottom of this newsletter.
NEW MULTI-USE GAMES AREA AT ODIHAM
A new multi-use games area (MUGA) has recently been created at RAF Odiham thanks to support from the Central Fund. The project gave a new lease of life to two disused tennis courts, re-purposing them to facilitate greater participation in a range of sporting activities, including tennis, netball and pickleball.

RAF Odiham approached us to help improve the wellbeing of personnel on Station through the refurbishment project.

“As sport is a significant contributing factor to an individual’s sense of wellbeing, the MUGA will be utilised for team building activities; encouraging people to work together effectively, develop motivation and promote cooperation in the workplace”.

The facility will become a social hub for the Station and is a focal point in Odiham’s drive to promote wellbeing.
'GAME CHANGING: HOW SPORT MAKES US HAPPIER, HEALTHIER AND BETTER CONNECTED'
An interesting report on the impact of sport by Sky Sports highlights many of the same benefits that we champion for RAF serving personnel.

Sport is about more than just winning; it plays a vital role in creating better serving personnel by encouraging:
  • Physical Health - Regular physical activity is crucial for our physical health; benefits include boosting our immune system and reducing our risk of illness.

  • Mental Wellbeing - Sport isn’t just good for our body; it’s a powerful tool for mental health, helping to alleviate stress and improve our mood.

  • Social Connection - Whether it’s cheering from the sidelines or playing on the pitch, sport brings people together, builds teamwork skills, and creates a sense of community.

  • Resilience & Personal Growth - The challenges and achievements in sport help develop resilience, perseverance, and confidence, contributing to personal development.

  • Inspiration - As a participant or fan, sport is a great source of enjoyment. Findings show that more than one in three UK adults said that watching sport made them take up sport or exercise for themselves.
