For AS1 (T) James Woods, a lifelong love of mountain biking developed into a passion for downhill racing — and, in just two years, he’s gone from riding for fun to competing at British national level.
Getting to the start line is only part of the challenge, downhill racing demands speed, technical skill, split-second decisions and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to stay focused when everything is changing around you.
We caught up with James to hear about the challenges of racing at the highest level, how support from the RAF Central Fund has helped him continue pushing towards his goals, and why his journey is only just beginning.
