ROYAL OPENING OF RAF CONINGSBY BOXING CLUB POWERED BY THE RAF CENTRAL FUND

The Prince of Wales has officially opened a new boxing facility funded by the RAF Central Fund in his capacity as Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Coningsby, during a visit to the Station on Friday 18 November 2022.

The Boxing Club is situated in the heart of the RAF base and creates a central place where personnel can go to exercise and box. The new Club is the extension of a popular provision of boxing coaching during the pandemic and His Royal Highness was able to see and hear how the redeveloped club benefits the wellbeing of serving personnel.

FACES OF THE FUND - Corporal Phillip Morley-Jones

There really is something for everyone when it comes to sport in the RAF. Corporal Phillip Morley-Jones talks to us about his varied sporting career and how a rugby injury led to a change in direction that included coaching, competing in tug of war and becoming a safety official for RAF Bobsleigh.

"I believe that all sport is important to people on an individual basis. Personally, I have found tug of war to be a great team environment to gain confidence and leadership qualities that I can bring back to my day job. You can’t be a one-man band in this sport, you need to work as a team, in time with each other and against your opposition."

RAF CENTRAL FUND DANESFIELD

Beautifully situated on the river Thames, Danesfield is the Home of RAF Rowing and RAF Canoeing and also is a Force Development facility in partnership with 22 Gp. Open to all serving personnel, access to the watersports centre is available through RAF Rowing and RAF Canoeing. Please contact the relevant Sports Association for more information on how you can get involved.
