Last month, RAF Halton Station Commander, Group Captain Garwood, opened a new state-of-the-art exercise rig at the Finlay Gym funded by the Central Fund's Mechanics Endowment Fund, a specific programme supporting Phase 1 and Phase 2 trainees.
Following a successful bid by the Recruit Training Squadron, we provided funding for the equipment in addition to eight new exercise bikes for the gym. The rig will enable PTIs to deliver more diverse lessons and allow recruits to perform over 100 exercises using their body weight.
Corporal Dowling, a trainer at RAF Halton said:
“The recruits were 100% our focus for this project and that was the main reason that funding was approved. I think out of all the selling points, the most impactful was simply modernising Finlay Gym and the training that we can provide. We look forward to putting it to good use.”
