MULTI-USE GAMES AREA OPENS AT RAF WADDINGTON
Waddington MUGA Opening
RAF Waddington has recently opened a new multi-use games area (MUGA) thanks to support from the Central Fund. With two of the five tennis courts on Station being unusable due to roots ruining the tarmac, our charity was approached to see if we would fund an uplift, not only to deliver functioning tennis courts but to change it into a MUGA so that it can be used for a range of sports. 

Recognising the exponential growth of the Station and the benefit the facility would have to serving personnel, the grant was approved and one year later it was officially opened by Station Commander, Gp Capt Mark Lorriman-Hughes. With a new surface and court markings for a number of sports including tennis, netball and football, the MUGA at Waddington will be well used by existing Station sports teams as well as attracting new members into those clubs.

RAF MARHAM FUNDRAISER RAISES £3,000!
A big THANK YOU to our fundraisers in the recent RAF Marham challenges who raised £3,000 for our charity!

To commemorate the Dambusters 80th anniversary, the Marham Flyers Running Club set two challenges to ensure everyone could be involved in marking the occasion. A virtual event challenged participants to run, jog, walk, or cycle 80k at times of their choosing between 01 April and 30 June, and an in-person running race took place on 04 June around RAF Marham's airfield. 

In July, we were thrilled to be presented with a generous cheque for £3,000 by Station Commander, Gp Cpt Fred Wigglesworth. Thank you to everyone involved in making the events a huge success and choosing the Central Fund as your chosen charity.

FACES OF THE FUND - Squadron Leader Dom Walden
Jackpot-winning fencer, Squadron Leader Dom Walden, recently got in touch with us to thank the Central Fund for its contribution to sport in the RAF. He told us how getting into fencing at 38 years old has not only kept him fit over the years but also helped to build a range of skills he can take back to his day job.

“I was lucky enough to recently win the £10,000 jackpot in the RAF Sports Lottery and it got me thinking about how important sport is to me and how well supported we, as a service, are by the RAF Central Fund.

Fencing has given me focus, built up my fitness, and given me the opportunity to meet and enjoy the company of many wonderful people throughout the services. The sport itself involves speed, tactics, and guile as you try to coordinate your hands and feet into hitting your opponent, all the while trying to counteract your opponent’s own efforts."

FANCY BECOMING A FUND AMBASSADOR?
We are a small team at the RAF Central Fund in terms of our office staff, but we have an amazing (and growing) family of RAF Central Fund Ambassadors who serve as our conduits on Stations and Units.  They help us identify where our support is most needed, provide support with grant applications, facilitate Station visits, as well as promote the work of our charity and our principal fundraising tool, the RAF Sports Lottery. 
We currently have vacancies for Station Ambassadors at the Stations below. So if you are based there and want to support your RAF charity then please drop us an email to marketing@rafcf.org.uk. An interest in sport or physical activity is a bonus and we welcome applications from PTIs.
