The Stunning Lake District
Located in the north west of England, the county of Cumbria is home to one of the most scenic regions of the UK and England’s largest National Park. This area has been welcoming visitors for centuries, with the traditional towns, beautiful mountains and calming lakes being a major draw for travellers. The Lake District has been a World Heritage Site since 2017. The unique landscape has long been a favourite with writers and painters such as William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, and continues to inspire today. Its location makes it a great place to break the journey between between England and Scotland, and is within easy reach of the airports in Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow. Equally, it’s a great addiiton to a tour to Northumberland, Yorkshire or Liverpool City. To follow is a suggested itinerary of the highlights, however there is much more to see and do to create a diverse itinerary for your travellers to enjoy.

Day 1 – Begin your tour at the impressive Holker Hall and Gardens. Remaining in the same family since the 16th century, the house is surrounded by 200 acres of parkland and formal gardens. Travel on to the small village of Haverthwaite and enjoy a nostalgic steam train ride to Lakeside. From here, take the boat across Windermere, the largest lake in England, to the pretty lakeshore town of Bowness. We recommend free time here to explore all there is on offer before continuing to your accommodation.
Day 2 – Today we suggest a full day tour of the region with a local operator. They offer guided minibus tours down lanes and up mountains that the larger vehicles cannot navigate, taking you off the beaten track to those areas less travelled by visitors. Their professional guides give a full insight in to the history, traditions and local knowledge that makes this region so special, especially where the best photo opportunities are. Depending on the group size, more than one vehicle may be required for this day.
Day 3 – Enjoy the morning at Hill Top, the historic farmhouse that Beatrix Potter made her home and became her inspiration for many of her timeless stories. The cottage garden is also well worth a visit, with many traditional plants and flowers to discover. Travel to the pretty village of Hawkshead, which offers a great array of shops, cafes and a local brewery who offer tours and tastings. Continue on to the traditional town of Grasmere which, amongst other sites to see, is the home to Grasmere Gingerbread who have been making this tasty delight for over 165 years.
Day 4 – Visit the market town of Kendal, which is home to a castle, a local museum, art galleries and the unique Quaker Tapestry, which charts the history of the movement across the ages. Ideally located, Kendal is the gateway in to and out of the region, allowing for easy access northwards to Scotland, to the west and Yorkshire, or to the south to Liverpool as well as north Wales….depending on where your journey takes you.

Floriade is the Netherlands' once in a decade horticultural event. Staged in Almere, close to Amsterdam and themed around 'The Green City of the Future', this huge expo site is already under construction. Visitors can expect a festival to stimulate all the senses.

The Passion Play is a testimony of religious faith and outstanding tradition. The singing, acting and staging are magnificent. Tours usually combine the Passion Play and a second centre destination. Early planning is essential.
