Closer to the Channel ports in the west of Belgium than the other tours, this itinerary visits the serene Hospital Notre-Dame à la Rose in Lessines. It’s one of the oldest hospitals in Europe, where art, architecture, medicine and nature are brought to life by the excellent guides. A visit to the historic city of Mons follows, continuing to the formidable looking Strépy-Thieu Boat Lift, which, at a 73.15 metre difference in height, is the largest boat lift in Europe. Next stop Dubuisson Brewery offering tours and inevitable beer tastings of course. Finally, The Grand Hornu, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. It’s one of the finest examples of neoclassical industrial heritage in Europe, presenting rich elements of Wallonia’s culture and innovation.

Package 4 - Small but Perfectly Formed: From Durbuy to Waterloo 
Staying on the northern edge of the Ardennes Forest, this tour is based near the town of Durbuy. Pretty and historic, it is often dubbed the smallest city in the world. Take some time to wander the charming cobbled streets full restaurants and independent shops and visit the Topiary Park with its 250 boxwood sculptures featuring everything from cheeky lady shapes to crocodiles. Jump on the Aisne Tramway which follows the Aisne River through the Ardennes countryside. Then travel north to Waterloo, to learn about the great battle and see where Napoleon (another miniature wonder) and his 70,000 strong army were finally defeated by Wellington and Britain’s Prussian Allies.

Package 5 - Tales of the Unexpected: Fairy-tale Castles and Secret Hideaways
Namur is the capital of Wallonia with a vast former military citadel, which was once one of the mightiest fortresses in Europe. This varied itinerary includes the romantic Water Gardens of Annevoie featuring over 20 ornamental ponds and fountains. A mini cruise to take in the riverside splendour of Château de Freÿr follows. Then an unexpected twist in the middle of a sprawling forest, takes the itinerary to the secret headquarters of Hitler where he led the French campaign in May / June 1940. The final options include a light hearted visit to the Fagnes Brewery with the triple pleasure of modern brewing, museum and tavern/restaurant. The final stop is then Chimay castle – an impressive medieval bastion with its ancestral family still in residence.
