Norway’s Telemark region offers magnificent scenery with high mountains, deep valleys, forests, rivers and crystal clear lakes whilst engaging in a rich cultural heritage. Tour highlights include The Telemark Canal, West Telemark Museum and the WW11 heavy water sabotage site at Vemork and you can top this great break off with a visit to Oslo, Norway’s capital.

Traveling from Denmark’s north coast, cross the Skagerrak Sea to Norway, immediately encountering fantastic scenery during the onward journey to Vrådal. Our base is the 3 star superior Straand Hotel, on the shore of Lake Nisser.

There’s a day at leisure in Vrådal. Relax and enjoy the hotel’s facilities which include a panoramic terrace, lounge, indoor swimming pool and a wonderful garden that sweeps down from the hotel to the lake shore and beach.  

A full day excursion featuring the magnificent Hardangervidda Plateau, home to Europe's largest stock of reindeer. We include a visit to the fascinating World War 11 sabotage site at Vemork, now a museum, to learn about the partisan mission to destroy the Nazi's efforts to create 'the bomb'. 

Experience the West Telemark Round Trip.  Call into Dalen, starting point of the Telemark Canal, and continue to The West Telemark Museum. This is one of Norway’s largest open air museums and also includes the 13th century Eidsborg Stave Church.

We also include a heritage boat trip on the Telemark canal, one of the World's most beautiful waterways.

The final day in Norway can include a stop at Heddal Stave Church and a visit to Oslo, Norway's charming maritime capital.

An adventure which commences in Norway's beautiful Telemark region and continues to the famous Kviknes Hotel Balestrand, which has a sensational location right on the shore of the Sognefjord. See varied and dramatic landscapes travelling along sparkling lakesides, around sheltered fjords, across majestic high mountain passes and through charming hamlets and villages. Staying 2 nights at the 3 star superior Straand Hotel, Vrådal and three nights at the 4 star Kviknes Hotel, Balestrand, both proud members of Norway's Historic Hotels organisation.

Travel across Germany and into Denmark for dinner and an overnight stay near Kolding before heading on to
Hirtshals on Denmark's north coast. Here board the ferry for the exciting journey across the Skagerrak Sea to Norway where you will immediately encounter the fantastic, pristine Norwegian scenery during the onward journey to Vrådal.

There's a leisurely day to explore Vrådal, enjoy the hotel's facilities and take in the views across the lake. In the afternoon, from the hotel's lakeside garden, we include an afternoon cruise on Lake Nisser on the historic vessel MS Fram, now almost 100 years old.

Time to leave the Telemark region travelling west, over the Haukeli high mountain pass and descend to the Hardangerfjord. This is a fruit growing area and is particularly beautiful when the spring blossom and autumn colours appear. Enjoy views of the fjord and up to the Folgefonn Glacier before joining a short ferry across the fjord. On then past Voss before crossing the Sognefjord to arrive at Balestrand for a 3 night stay.

A relaxing start to the day before, late morning, boarding the coach for the short excursion across the fjord and through Sogndal to the Sogn Folk Museum, Kaupanger. This attraction includes a range of local farm dwellings, pastures, footpaths and trails. It offers an insight into fjordland life through the ages.

A full day 'Glacier Route' excursion starting with an ascent of the mighty Gaularfjell, stopping at the Utsikten Viewpoint en-route. Continue along Lake Jolster and through Skei to arrive Fjaerland for a visit to the Norwegian Glacier Museum. On then towards Sogndal, enjoying wonderful views along the Fjaerlandsfjord, before arriving back at Balestrand.

Leaving Balestrand, taking 2 short ferry crossings on the Sognefjord before a photo stop at the Borgund Stave Church and heading through the Hemsedal Valley and south through lakes and mountains before arriving in Horten, on the Oslofjord, for dinner and an overnight stay.

Homeward bound across Denmark into Germany with subsequent overnights and on to Holland for a relaxing overnight crossing to Hull or Harwich.
