The Shetland Isles (Visit Scotland)

The Shetland Islands are located as close to Norway as to Aberdeen. This archipelago consists of approximately 100 islands, 16 of which are inhabited. Its natural, rugged beauty and magnificent coastlines make it a joy to tour. The best known archaeological site in Shetland is Jarlshof Prehistoric and Norse Settlement, dramatically located on a headland overlooking the West Voe of Sumburgh. The capital is bustling Lerwick, dating from the 17th century. Sheltered by the island of Bressay, it has an excellent natural harbour and is a hive of activity in the summer months.

More recently, Shetland has been the back-drop to the crime drama series 'Shetland' with the chance to visit the many stunning locations such as North and South Mainland and the main town of Lerwick featured in this popular series.

Access to the Shetlands is via overnight crossings with Northlink Ferries from Aberdeen/Lerwick, whom allocate groups a maximum of 20 cabins plus drivers berth. This is made up of 10 outside 2-berth cabins (beds are side by side) and 10 inside 4-berth cabins, plus inside twin for the driver.

Staying two nights at the harbourside, 3 star Shetland Hotel with unrivalled sea-views, offering 64 comfortable bedrooms, the Waterfront Bar and Grill, being well-located in the town for exploring. Delve into this vibrant capital located on the east coast of the Mainland, overlooking the island of Bressay to the east.  Enjoy at your own pace, its many historic sites from its Norse and Dutch heritage and venture along the streets familiar to 'Jimmy Perez'.

Tour Includes:  Outbound overnight, 1 night onboard ferry, 2 nights in Lerwick & 1 night onboard ferry. Half board included throughout. In Lerwick: porter service, full Scottish breakfast and 3 course choice dinner with tea and coffee. Meals included on ferry: Full Scottish Breakfast. Dinner is 3 course carvery. After dinner tea/coffee is NOT included.
