Rich in history, stunning countryside, traditional market towns, and beautiful coastal destinations, Yorkshire has much to offer visitors. Itineraries to the area can include a variety of visits and experiences which showcase all this impressive region has to offer, from imposing cathedrals, to steam trains, renowned gardens, and local food tastings.
The region is also well known for it literary connections, from the Brontë sisters who resided at the Parsonage in Haworth (now a museum), to the coastal town of Whitby which gave Bram Stoker the inspiration for Dracula.
Another well known writer who lived and worked in the county was James 'Alf' Wight, who penned the James Herriot stories. Working as a veterinary across the Dales and Moors from the 1940s to the 1980s, Wright wrote about his experiences, the quirky people he met, and the many scrapes they got into – all with a gentle humour and clear love of Yorkshire. His books have never been out of print since they were first published in the early 1970s, and over the years they have been made into the TV programme ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, which has become popular across the globe‘…the most recent series of which is due to be released outside of the UK very soon.
It is possible to include a visit to some of the sites featured in the TV show as part of a tour to the region, and we welcome the opportunity to discuss your tour ideas in more detail.
