Lake Maggiore (Swiss Image/Jan Geerk)
Lake Lugano (Forbes)

Lake Maggiore is an idyllic retreat where magnificent mountains plunge to the lakeside and grand villas lie secluded behind palm trees and lush gardens. Our base is in the stylish resort of Stresa, within sight of the Borromean Islands. During this tour see no less than four lakes in addition to historic towns and villages.

Taking the short Channel crossing to Calais and then south, through the Belgian Ardennes and Luxembourg. On then to France for dinner and an overnight stay near Metz.

Journey into Switzerland, past Lake Lucerne and through the Gotthard Pass to Bellinzona. Arrive at Lake Maggiore and pass through Locarno en route to Stresa for a five night stay at the 4* Hotel Astoria, located in the town centre overlooking the lake and promenade. A well appointed, popular hotel with a garden, terrace and outdoor swimming pool.

A full day to relax, discover the town and enjoy the stunning views across the lake to the Borromena Islands.

A day of exploration, starting with a drive from Italy and into Switzerland to pass through Locarno. On then to Lugano, on beautiful Lake Lugano, where the town's wonderful tree lined promenade is overlooked by the surrounding peaks. Proceed from here to Lake Como with a little time at leisure in historic Como City before returning in time for dinner.

A scenic day venturing through the wild mountainous scenery of the Anzasca Valley, once famous for its gold mines. Travel to Macugnaga which is overlooked by the mighty Monte Rosa, one of the highest peaks in the Alps. There will be time to relax here and see the typical old houses and the town square.

Climbing up from Lake Maggiore and through Omegna to arrive at Lake Orta. This unspoilt area comes complete with towering peaks, lush forests, sparkling waters and historic towns. Orta San Giulio is well worth some exploration with its narrow, cobbled streets, cafés, restaurants and views across the lake to the neighbouring island.

Time to head for home through Italy and travel on for dinner and an overnight stay in the Metz area. Then northward, through the Belgian Ardennes and on to Calais for a Channel crossing back to Dover.

Tour includes: 5 nights half board in Stresa with a buffet breakfast and three course choice dinner. Coach parking on site. Half board overnights out and return. Short Channel return crossings. Lake view rooms are available at a supplement, (subject to availability).

Borromean Islands Boat Trip from Stresa
