NEW FOR 2021 - ARRAS AND THE FLOATING GARDENS OF AMIENS

Arras is a city of surprises. From it's bustling markets to vibrant restaurants, remembrance sites and architecture, there is plenty to see and do. We include a visit to Amiens where you can explore the city on a walking tour but we also suggest that you include a visit to Les Hortillonnages (the floating gardens).  Your stay in based at the 3* Holiday Inn Express in a great central location in Arras itself.

LES HORTILLONNAGES - THE FLOATING GARDENS
With its 300 hectares of water gardens, Amiens is known as the "Venice of the North". Cultivated as market gardens since the Middle Ages, today only a handful of 'hortillons' remain to earn a living. Many of the plots have become pleasure gardens for townspeople seeking outdoor space in which to relax.  Venturing by boat along small canals, interlacing this series of gorgeous islands, makes for a very different French experience.

Visit an area of France not only famous for its cheese and calvados but for its wonderful landscape and interesting history. THE NORMANDY TULIP FESTIVAL
The Chateau de Vendeuvre is located between Lisieux and Falaise with numerous gardens within the estate to explore throughout the year.  In April, it hosts an annual Tulip Festival, where thousands of tulips of various colours welcome you all the way through the grounds, including the shell grotto and the water gardens. HISTORIC CITIES OF FLANDERS

Featuring three notable Flanders cities in Mechelen, Gent and Leuven and the opportunity to explore their significant historic buildings, cobbled streets, wide market places, museums, vibrant cafes and restaurants. The Meise Botanical Gardens, located just north of Brussels, dates back to 1796 and covers 92 hectares with many historical buildings, including a castle with a tower from the 12th century. With many unique collections including the largest rose collection in the world and important historical collections from Brazil and Central Africa with their mission being to preserve plants  for the future.

The popular floral extravaganza, Floriales returns to the city of Gent  between the 1st and 9th May 2021 with colourful themed exhibitions located around the city and at the Citadel Park.  The city is fascinating to explore in it's own right with plenty of green spaces, river walks and Flemish architecture.

BRUGES ....CHOCOLATE AND LACE
3 Nights/4 Days - January to December 2021 - from £146
Bruges is a real gem, with it's compact historic centre on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Explore it's squares, gardens, canals, grand buildings and cobbled streets and any tour to this notable city should include a day at leisure to see it's sights. Staying at the 4* Hotel Academie, located in a quiet area of the city centre, next to the Diamond Museum.

Why not include.......Bruges Triennial taking place from May to September 2021
Every three years the Bruges Triennial brings contemporary art and architecture to the historic city centre of Bruges. The event invites regional & international artists and architects to submit dozens of works of art, found alongside waterways, on the cobbled streets, in peaceful places of worship or on vacant lots. For visitors, it will be a summer-long exploration, following an unique trail at their leisure.
BULBFIELDS AND WINDMILLS
3 Nights/4 Days - late March to early May 2021 - from £245
The bulbfields of Western Holland are renowned for the riot of colour throughout early Spring and this ever popular tour includes admission to Keukenhof Gardens where floral arrangements are found in a picture book setting of old trees and waterways. Staying at the comfortable, modern 3* superior Postillion Hotel in Dordrecht.

Whilst there is a wide choice of hotels and locations where you can be based for this tour, additional inclusions can be arranged such as Zaanse Schans Living Museum with buildings dating back to the mid 19th century including working windmills;  Simonhoeve Cheese and Clog Farm; Royal Delft Pottery where visitors tour through the museum and the factory; historic Medemblick, Hoorn and Einkhuizen where you can enjoy a boat trip with coffee and cake and a journey on a steam tram to name a few! 

ADDITIONAL IDEAS FOR THE AREA........
Visit the Aalsmeer Flower Festival taking place from the 18th to the 23rd June 2021 with the theme being 'Flowers & Fashion’. The festival will take place at the horticultural museum, Historische Tuin, and the new Flower Art Museum. The event has been extended from two to six days with flowers well and truly in the spotlight.

Also located at Aalsmeer is the new, recently opened Floriworld.  Take a voyage of discovery through plants and flowers at the 'flower village of the Netherlands', located at the entrance of the flower auction and spread over two floors. A whole world opens up for visitors as they discover how important flowers and plants are in their daily lives.

Floriade is the Netherlands' once in a decade horticultural event. Staged in Almere, close to Amsterdam and themed around 'The Green City of the Future', this huge expo site is already under construction. Visitors can expect a festival to stimulate all the senses.
The Passion Play is a testimony of religious faith and outstanding tradition. The singing, acting and staging are magnificent. Tours usually combine the Passion Play and a second centre destination. Early planning is essential.
