Culzean Castle and Gardens (Visit Scotland)
View across to Arran and Goat Fell (walkhighlands)

Ayrshire is steeped in history with links to many famous Scottish sons including Robert the Bruce and Robert Burns.  A short distance off the coast lies four islands Ailsa Craig, Arran, Cumbrae, and the Holy Isle. Ayrshire has a plentiful supply of castles too with over forty across the county. Here we combine a taste of all to savour………..

Staying at the family owned and run 4 star Riverside Lodge at Irvine which has enjoyed recent refurbishment. Featuring 128 comfortable, spacious bedrooms, extensive bar lounge, relaxing restaurant and outside terrace for the better weather. There is no lift however there are a high number of ground floor bedrooms.

Time to head off on a scenic drive to the charming seaside resort of Largs for the short crossing to Great Cumbrae, a small and picturesque island only 10 miles round. Stop in Millport before the return crossing to Largs. This afternoon, we recommend time at leisure in Troon with its sandy beaches, beautiful views and bustling harbour.

Impressive Culzean Castle and Country Park, is perched high above the Ayrshire cliffs with views across the bay to Ailsa Craig and Arran.  A costumed guide will share the secrets of the castle, once home to the chieftain of Clan Kennedy, an ancient Scottish family descended from Robert the Bruce.  Travel to the village of Alloway and the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Burns Cottage incorporating fascinating collections about the early years of Burn’s life.

A full day excursion to the Isle of Arran, to experience ‘Scotland in Miniature’, beginning with an included visit to Brodick Castle. Dramatically set against the backdrop of Goatfell, the grand red sandstone, baronial-style castle has stunning views over Brodick Bay and boasts impressive gardens. Spend time in Brodick before re-boarding the ferry back to the mainland
