Inside, the interiors were conserved as close to possible as they were found, preserving its distinctive character. On return, visit much loved Elsecar, a heritage centre village built by the gentry which became an international centre of ironmaking and coalmining. It is now home to a number of independent shops and cafes.
Off to Bronte country and Haworth where a Bronte themed guided tour awaits. From here, it’s a short hop to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. First opened in 1867 to transport coal and textiles to the local mills, journey back in time and enjoy five miles of stunning scenery. To round the day off, head to the Victorian spa town of Ilkley, known for its breath-taking moorland scenery, with time to wander at your own pace.
