Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
The United Kingdom (UK) is rolling out a border management initiative with the introduction of ETA, a pre-clearance permit. An ETA is applied for on-line, either via the UK official ETA website or App, and it must be in place in advance of travel
An ETA is required by non-British/non-Irish nationals who are visa-exempt to enter the UK and who are arriving as visitors or transiting through the UK. ETA is being implemented as follows:
Eligible non-Europeans Apply in advance from 27 November 2024 and will need an ETA to travel to the UK from 8 January 2025
Eligible Europeans Apply from 5 March 2025 and will need an ETA to travel to the UK from 2 April 2025
