Glamis Castle (Visit Scotland)
Anstruther Harbour (Visit Scotland, Kenny Lam)

The east coast city of Dundee is one of contrasts, from the state of the art V & A Museum to the heritage of its jute mills and historic ship with a great story to tell. This makes it an excellent base from which to explore both Fife to the south and Angus to the north.

Journey along the glittering coastline, with a guided tour highlighting the fascinating heritage of the East Neuk of Fife. Take time in St Andrews, before heading further along the coast through charming fishing villages to Anstruther, where many houses around the harbour are of traditional Fife design with red pantile or slate grey roofs and crow-step gables. From here, head for the lovingly restored Teasses Estate. Enjoy a guided tour of the formal gardens, the Walled Garden and Greenhouses.

Start the day in vibrant Dundee, with its waterfront development and a morning visit to Captain Scott’s ship, the RRS Discovery, which is included. Explore the ship and relive the hardships and triumphs of the remarkable expedition to the Antarctic. There’s time to wander through the city at your own pace before heading to Glamis Castle for a visit, with guided tour (STA), the splendid childhood home of Her Majesty the Queen Mother.

The opportunity to see more of lovely Angus. First stop is the traditional seaside town of Arbroath, home to the famous 'Arbroath Smokie'. Head onto Stonehaven, with time to explore the sandy seafront and picture perfect harbour. Onwards to Montrose, visiting the House of Dun, an elegant Georgian country house where costumed guides lead you through its fascinating history, before returning to Dundee

Your base for the tour is at the 3 star Invercarse Hotel, Dundee, part of the Best Western Signature Collection.  A former mansion house set in its own wooded grounds with inviting public areas which overlook the mighty River Tay. Offering 68 comfortable bedrooms, some with walk-in shower rooms (request).  There is no lift, but there are some ground floor rooms.
