Kirkwall Harbour (Visit Scotland)
Skara Brae (Visit Scotland)

Accessed by several ferry operators, the enchanting Orkney Islands are located just 10 miles north of the coast of mainland Scotland, separated by the Pentland Firth. This archipelago consists of 70 islands, 20 of which are inhabited..

With green rolling fields bordered by huge seascapes, Orkney has an incredible allure and huge range of attractions. Visitors can enjoy extraordinary remains of villages, stone circles and tombs and the sunken fleet at Scapa Flow – there is over 5,000 years of human history to uncover here.

Orkney’s striking sea cliffs are home to thousands of birds, whilst seals, whales, and dolphins are frequently spotted in the clear waters surrounding the isles. There are tranquil beaches to stroll along, unique shops to visit and award-winning food and drink to sample.

A must is time at leisure in the vibrant, cosmopolitan capital Kirkwall, which has retained its Viking spirit and identity

Highlights can include Skara Brae and the Italian Chapel, which we recommend pre-booking, plus Skaill Housel, Ring of Brodgar, The Old Man of Hoy, St Magnus Cathedral, the Bishop’s and Earl’s palaces to name a few.

The 4* Kirkwall Hotel looks forward to welcoming you for your three night stay on the islands. A Scottish Baronial style, Victorian building overlooking the harbour, featuring 54 spacious, well-presented bedrooms and fully refurbished throughout in a contemporary modern style, retaining its Scottish character and feel with imagery throughout the hotel depicting past life and culture of the Orkneys.

Crossing to the Isle of Skye (Visit Scotland, Paul Tompkins)
Isle of Bute, Colintraive ferry crossing

Combining rugged landscapes, picturesque fishing villages and medieval castles of the stunning Isle of Skye with beautiful Bute. One of the most accessible Scottish islands, just a short ferry ride across the Firth of Clyde, from Wemyss Bay to the 'Victoriana meets art deco-style' resort of Rothesay, with its palm trees and promenade.

Heading north, with an overnight stop on route, then onwards to Skye, famous for it's scenery and landscapes, crossing the Skye Bridge, gateway to this majestic Isle. Staying two nights at the 3 star Dunollie Hotel, overlooking Broadford Bay in a pleasant waterside setting. There's a day to explore the island and we include the unique Glass Bottom Boat trip offering the opportunity to spot seals, otters and exploring the underwater kelp forests, home to a variety of marine life.

For the second part of our adventure, we then head for Colintraive for the ferry to Rhubodach on the lovely island of Bute.  Why not take time at leisure in Oban, gateway to the Isles, or take a break in the scenic village of Inveraray with its white washed cottages, located on the shores of Loch Fyne where a visit to Inveraray Jail living museum can be included for an additional cost before arriving for two nights at the 3 star Glenburn Hotel.  This impressive hotel enjoys wonderful views over the Firth of Forth to the Kyles of Bute. The island is just 15 miles long and less than 5 miles wide whereby you can savour a leisurely tour with time for photo stops with views over to the Sound of Bute to Arran.  Included is a visit to Mount Stuart House and Gardens.  A 19th-century mansion with extravagant interiors and expansive landscaped and wild gardens.
