Alnwick Garden is the inspiration of the current Duchess of Northumberland. Built to be unconventional in 2001, it is an unique, contemporary garden. Transformed across the seasons, no two days are ever the same. From the Rose Garden to the Poison Garden and on to the Grand Cascade, wander at will. On to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, owned by the Percy family since 1309. Well known for being a setting for the Blackadder series and Harry Potter films.
Travel along George Wade's 'Military Road' tracing the path of Hadrian's Wall to Chesters Roman Fort, with included admission. Part of Hadrian's Wall, Chesters is the best preserved Roman cavalry fort in Britain. On then to the lovely market town of Hexham for free time, followed by a stop in Corbridge with its boutique shops and cafes.
Follow the heritage coast with an excursion to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, via the historic port of Amble, 'the friendliest port' and the southern gateway to Northumberland's coastline and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. See the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory and the imposing Bamburgh Castle, entrance to which can be arranged at an additional cost. Timings on this day are tide dependent.
