Immerse yourself in the unique history and heritage of this beautiful area of the north east of England. From the stunning scenery of the Durham Dales to the exciting attractions of Beamish Living History Museum and Locomotion with time to explore the city of Durham at your own pace.

Staying at the 4 star Radisson Blu Hotel in the heart of Durham. Featuring 207 spacious and well appointed double/twin bedrooms which can be accessed via the lift. The stylish and contemporary public areas have recently undergone refurbishment with pleasant outside seating overlooking the river. Start your break with time at leisure in Durham this morning. See the spectacular Cathedral, the beautifully restored Victorian indoor market or why not venture to National Trust Crook Hall Gardens, just minutes walk from the hotel. On to Shildon in the afternoon and visit Locomotion, exhibiting the history of rail travel from the 19th century to the present day.

A full day excursion around the Durham Dales awaits. Travelling via Weardale to Stanhope for a visit to the Durham Dales Centre built within the walled gardens of Stanhope Castle. Head to Middleton-in-Teeside, Eggleston Village and on to Barnard Castle with its town centre Victorian and Georgian architecture and browse the shops in the specialist Antique Quarter. Continue via Staindrop to Bishop Auckland returning to the hotel in time for dinner.

There is a full day to visit to Beamish, the Living Museum of the North. The world famous open air museum tells the story of the north east of England in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods. Enjoy unlimited rides on the restored trams and replica buses and see attractions including a working farm, an authentic town street, the colliery village and a traditional coal fired Fish & Chip shop!

Northumberland is a land of big adventures, breathtaking beauty, enchanting castles, attractive beaches and impressive heritage coastline with characterful market towns.

Staying at the 4 star Holiday Inn Gosforth Park, 7 miles north of Newcastle. A modern hotel with 151 spacious, well appointed double/twin bedrooms. There is a lift to the first floor where the Classic rooms are found.  The public areas are modern and bright with on site coach parking and leisure club with indoor pool.

Alnwick Garden is the inspiration of the current Duchess of Northumberland. Built to be unconventional in 2001, it is an unique, contemporary garden. Transformed across the seasons, no two days are ever the same.  From the Rose Garden to the Poison Garden and on to the Grand Cascade, wander at will. On to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, owned by the Percy family since 1309. Well known for being a setting for the Blackadder series and Harry Potter films.

Travel along George Wade's 'Military Road' tracing the path of Hadrian's Wall to Chesters Roman Fort, with included admission. Part of Hadrian's Wall, Chesters is the best preserved Roman cavalry fort in Britain. On then to the lovely market town of Hexham for free time, followed by a stop in Corbridge with its boutique shops and cafes.

Follow the heritage coast with an excursion to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, via the historic port of Amble, 'the friendliest port' and the southern gateway to Northumberland's coastline and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. See the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory and the imposing Bamburgh Castle, entrance to which can be arranged at an additional cost. Timings on this day are tide dependent.
