In all, there are over 6000 islands dotted all around the UK. Though the majority are uninhabited, many are easily accessible for travellers to visit either as foot passengers or via a motor coach, making them a unique and fascinating addition to a tour itinerary. Visits in almost all instances can consist of any duration, from a day trip, to staying for a few nights, to fully appreciate the local flavour each has to offer.
Whilst many of these islands are located off the Scottish mainland and are already very familiar to travellers, there are others that are perhaps less well-known which are also worth considering in other regions of the country. All offer wonderful coastlines to explore via their various pathways and roads. To follow are just a few ideas to keep in mind.
