The very real business case for investing in energy efficiency

Interesting to hear this week that consumers with smart meters will be offered discounts on their energy bills if they cut peak-time use on a handful of days over the winter, as part of a National Grid trial scheme to avoid blackouts. No similar offer for manufacturers in energy-intensive processes, but there is plenty that machine builders can do to help their end users, with energy efficient automation technologies, as well as energy monitoring technologies that enable end users to view and analyse peaks and even out their usage through the day. As business costs rise, minimising energy usage isn’t just about being green – although that’s clearly important, too. It’s a very real impactor on the bottom line.
