Manufacturing is a ‘pocket of strength’ in a struggling economy
Those charged with driving growth in the economy will have been disappointed by a 0.3% fall in GDP in March, leaving growth for the first quarter at just 0.1%. Manufacturing, though, grew 0.7%, the strongest uptick since May 2021, highlighting yet again the importance of the sector to the economy. The politicians will no doubt argue that the overall economy is doing better than predicted, but surely a greater focus on the things we are demonstrably good at wouldn’t hurt.
With best regards
