Not all enclosures are created equal for outdoor applicationsThe need for outdoor systems is increasing, due to the ever-expanding requirement for all things to be connected. This need will only increase but it is paramount that when a system is to be placed outside serious consideration, is given to the design of the housing that the critical infrastructure equipment, will sit in. Whether it be telecommunication, rail, airports or highways the overriding factors are the same. Outdoor enclosures usually contain critical infrastructure equipment and as such we need to ensure that we are protecting that equipment. |

Mechan Controls introduces RFID reset stationIn the day-to-day life of a machine operator there are times when the operator needs to go inside the machine to make changes or fix a problem. Whilst inside the machine, a number of hazardous events could take place if the machine is started up. But you can avoid inadvertent start-ups (in accordance to the safety standard ISO 14118) with the Mechan Controls RFID reset station. Once you open the guard and enter the machine, only the coded key will be able to reset the machine. The electronic fob key has to be touched and removed from the reset station in order to reset the machine. This gives the user peace of mind whilst operating inside the hazardous area. |

Automated palletising in just three easy stepsManual palletising is repetitive, boring and physically demanding but in lower throughput applications with frequent changes of box and pallet sizes, automating the process can seem daunting. This is precisely the situation easily addressed by the new Robotiq PE Series palletiser from RARUK Automation. With its strong emphasis on simple installation and configuration, it empowers workers to boost palletising efficiency and speed, enabling them to be deployed to higher value and more rewarding tasks. The Robotiq PE Series palletiser is a ready-to-use solution for picking a wide range of box and pallet dimensions. It has a pick rate of up to 13 boxes per minute and, dependant on the chosen gripper, has the potential to pick multiple boxes at once to boost productivity substantially. |

Maximise filling machine efficiency with the right pumpLiquid filling machines are used for the transfer of a variety of bulk liquids for packaging into bottles, pouches or other containers. Process requirements can range from water, glues, or chemicals to resins or food. Selecting the right process technology is not only be challenging, given the variety of fluids but can also be problematic if common filling issues are not known in advance. Utilising the correct filling technology can mean the difference between an efficient low wastage process, or unexpected consequences leading to repeated maintenance and downtime. |

AI – playground or industrial tool? Can manufacturers increase transparency and lower entry barriers? Or are AI methods rather a game for start-ups? Spoiler: in machine vision, there are solutions suitable for industrial use. The machine vision community agrees that artificial intelligence (AI) is a key enabler for the digital age. The self-learning algorithms have the potential to improve existing machine vision processes and products and also show new possibilities. However, these also require new ways of thinking. But many companies in the machine vision sector still have reservations about the new technology. There is a lack of expertise and time to get a detailed understanding of the topic. |
