The importance of return on investment
I met, at an exhibition, a very nice lady whose company made insulating roof panels for conservatories. Rather than giving me a ballpark cost, she insisted on a surveyor making the trip, “because every conservatory is different”. I liked the idea but, long story short, if instead I ran an air conditioner every day through the summer, and a heater every day through the winter, it would be 22 years before it would have been cheaper to replace the roof panels. And that hit home to me how focused our customers all are in these challenging times on return on investment – be that through energy efficiency, increased flexibility or improved productivity. It is often said that UK manufacturers are investment averse. I’m not sure that’s true, but certainly we could make a case for them being risk averse. But if we can demonstrate genuine return on investment, that’s surely half the battle won.
With best regards
