Driving growth in the manufacturing sector

Whether you call them growth plans or plans for growth, by my reckoning we’re almost into double figures for new strategies over the last decade. And from a manufacturing perspective, I’m not sure any of them has actually delivered. Before last week’s mini-budget, the CBI reported that manufacturers’ expectations were for a fall in output over the next three months; it will be interesting to see whether the latest growth plan will drive any upswing in optimism in the next CBI report. For its part, MakeUK has called for a National Manufacturing Plan. Let’s hope such calls don’t continue to fall on deaf ears.

With best regards
