Short-term solution, but no long-term vision

The Chancellor’s Autumn Statement might have promised £4.5bn in support for strategic manufacturing industries, but how and when these funds might be delivered will be a key question for many. And it seems to be little more than a sticking plaster, failing to provide any sort of comprehensive industrial strategy. As Chris Barlow, partner at MHA, concluded: “The government cannot keep providing short-term solutions in an attempt to distract from the glaring lack of long-term vision. This budget should’ve given manufacturing the one thing it didn’t have: room to plan.”
