The time is now for some innovative thinking

Current predictions for energy prices will see my fuel bills having more than doubled – and close to trebled – within the next 12 months. That’s going to be tough on the finances of all domestic consumers, but it’ll be far worse for businesses. The UK could well be paying the price for some very poor infrastructure spending decisions over the last five years. The cost of HS2 – which nobody in the south really needs and which nobody in the north is going to benefit from – looks like exceeding £100bn, which could have paid for four nuclear power stations or funded any number of green energy projects. We’re not alone either; Germany is paying the price for its reliance on Russian gas, and France is talking about energy rationing. These could be dark times – literally. Now is when we really need the innovative thinking that the UK is renowned for.

With best regards
