Robotics and automation can address key manufacturing hurdles

A short-term approach to capital investment, a common misperception that the technology is expensive and complex, and a cultural resistance to replacing outdated equipment, mean that the UK is lagging much of the industrialised world in automation generally and robotics in particular. There are hurdles to overcome related to productivity, labour availability and skills shortages; and as Mike Wilson, chief automation officer at the MTC points out, robotics and automation hold the potential to address these issues effectively.
