The importance of engaging with a knowledgeable supplier

I have said on a number of occasions that the research we all do online isn’t necessarily to get us to expert level in a key area of technology, but rather to arm ourselves with the right questions to ask suppliers. So it was a bit embarrassing to fall into exactly that trap myself in the ‘fastening versus adhesive bonding’ debate – watching a couple of videos and coming to the wrong conclusion about ease of automation of the respective technologies from the information presented. Rather than risk repeating or making any new errors, I’ll say only this: automation is going to become increasingly important as we look to increase efficiency of processes, reduce costs and combat skills shortage; if you’re looking to automate a joining operation, have a conversation with a knowledgeable supplier at the earliest opportunity to find the best way forward.

With best regards
