Confidence growing among UK manufacturers

A new study from Protolabs and the IMechE has highlighted a rise in confidence among manufacturers, despite the challenges of the last five years from the likes of Brexit and Covid. In particular, almost two thirds say they are either ' very prepared' or 'prepared' for Industry 4.0 and rise of digital processes, and there is now greater belief in their own ability to resolve the digital skills gap by training their own people. The report also noted that the UK has become a leader in high value manufacturing. Highlighting the vital importance of the sector to the economy, Matthew Rooney, head of policy at IMechE called for more government recognition and investment the UK's manufacturing base.
