Growth in food manufacturing in 2024 Q1

The focus on automation within food and beverage manufacturing seems to be paying off, with the sector seeing improved productivity. Food production increased by 4.3% in the first three months of 2024 according to analysis of ONS data by FourJaw Manufacturing Analytics, while producers of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products also achieved significant productivity gains. Indeed, food and beverage production is very much bucking the overall manufacturing trend for Q1, with output in the wider sector falling 0.8% year-on-year. This certainly highlights the vibrancy in our own sector.
