Food manufacturing riding high, but skills shortage is still a concern

The food manufacturing sector is again showing its resilience, with stats highlighting the industry enjoying a 63% uplift in revenue in Q1 of this year, while SME manufacturers across the spectrum of industries registered an average decline of 10%. The clothing industry was the worst hit, suffering a 40% drop. The big question now for food manufacturers as they look to kick on through 2024 is how our industry manages the growing skills crisis. We will all be hoping for some clarity after the election next week from whichever party forms the government on what plans it has to tackle this challenge.

With best regards
