A decline in manufacturing output, but plenty of reasons for optimism

An unexpected flatlining of UK GDP, month-on-month, in July, with a sharp decline in manufacturing output, will be something a blow to the new government which has pinned so much of its manifesto commitments on economic growth. GDP had been expected to rise by 0.2%. But some of the conversations I've had in the last few weeks paint a picture of excitement about, and a growing willingness to invest in, automation technologies and robotics, which ought to bring big productivity benefits. Of course, these projects will take time to come to fruition, but it seems there are genuine reasons for optimism in our sector.

With best regards
