No one ever wins in a trade war
History teaches us many things, but surely a key lesson is that no one ever wins in a trade war. In its most recent economic outlook, the OECD estimated that a 10% increase in tariffs on all non-commodity imports the US, met with a similar increase of imports from the US, could result in a 0.3% decline in global GDP. And that's an average; interestingly, the biggest decline after Mexico would be seen in the US itself, down 0.72%. Makes you wonder how long 'tariffs' will remain President Trump's favourite word.
With best regards
