Unplanned downtime is costing industry big

With rising material and energy costs, a new ABB study details the bottom-line impact of production line breakdowns and explores how manufacturers can shift from crisis-mode repairs to intelligent, life cycle-led planning. The study highlights unanimous agreement that unplanned downtime is a huge cost; however, a full third of industry decision makers have not undertaken any motor drive modernisation projects in the last two years, suggesting that many of these sudden stoppages could be avoided. Oswald Deuchar, global head of modernisation program and ABB Motion Services comments: "Our research shows that those who shift from reactive firefighting to forward-looking life-cycle strategies experience fewer failures and greater resilience.”
