Food manufacturing output volumes fall sharply

Manufacturing output volumes fell in the three months to November, and at the fastest pace since August 2020. And the food manufacturing sector was one of the big drivers behind the fall, says the CBI in its latest Industrial Trends Survey. Ben Jones, CBI lead economist, noted that many firms were linking this slowdown to uncertainty ahead of the Budget. It will be interesting to see the extent to which yesterday's Budget statement impacts on sentiment, but Jones' view is that manufacturers still face a challenging end to the year.
