Machine builders increasingly falling to the capacity trap

According to strategic outsourcing specialist PP Control and Automation, machine builders are falling into 'the capacity trap', where an outdated 'in-house' approach is actually holding them back and curtailing growth. Delayed shipments, extra overtime and an increase in lead times are all telltale signs that internal production is stretched. PP C&A director Andy Whittaker is challenging machine builders to explore the possibility of outsourcing non-core manufacturing operations, freeing them up to focus on value added activities, new product development and building customer relationships. He comments: "Outsourcing isn’t about giving up control - it’s about regaining it in the areas that matter most. It allows businesses to create strategic space to focus on what moves the needle.”
