July 2023

Let me talk to you about Ella, Caitlyn, Jude and Maryam. Hopefully you’ve met them on social media by now. They’re the faces of the #ItAllAddsUp campaign, a social media campaign my office launched earlier this month with the wonderful Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland. Through an incredibly impactful series of short films we are highlighting the real-life experiences bravely shared by real women of the North East. I’m grateful to them all. I’m also grateful to everyone – men and women – who have been sharing and talking about this campaign, backing this drive to do better. We need this culture change campaign because 71% of women of all ages in the UK have experienced some form of sexual harassment. That’s not OK. It all adds up.

So, if you watch one thing today, please make sure it’s these videos.

Thank you, Kim

FIGHTING CRIME

MAKING AN IMPACT
Over 50 suspected criminals were arrested, more than £100,000 worth of drugs seized and over 3,500 addresses were visited in the first ever Operation Impact. This landmark policing operation was the largest operational activity ever carried out by the force and I’ve been assured this robust action will be repeated again soon. Read more here.

PREVENTING CRIME

CALLING ALL PASSENGERS
Hundreds of extra patrols promised as part of a scheme of work to stamp out anti-social behaviour on the North East’s public transport are now underway during the school summer holidays.

There has been a whole raft of work happening and with the latest ASB hotspot funding we are determined to keep doing more of what is working. If we get public transport right, we can really improve lives, really improve the North East. Read more here.

IMPROVING LIVES

MAKING WAVES IN SUNDERLAND
The SAIL project was launched last December to create a safer and cleaner Sunderland and results already show a dramatic fall in ASB.

There’s been a 73% drop in rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour. Numbers like this speak for themselves. Together we’re delivering, it’s working and we’ll keep building on what we are achieving.

PROUD OF PRIDE

As ever, Northern Pride was a rip-roaring success. A huge turn out and a huge atmosphere to match. Weather aside, you can’t rain on our parade up here!

PAYBACK REMINDER

Don’t forget, £100k of money that crime fighting officers have seized from drug dealers, human traffickers and thieves, will be used to improve lives and benefit grassroot causes, as part of my Operation Payback fund. Get applying now here.
