Hello,
I’m Susan Dungworth and it’s an honour to have been elected as the new Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria.

A huge thanks is in order for those of you who know me, who put your belief in me, and voted for me to take on this important role and to deliver for the people of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear.
For those of you who don’t know me, let me tell you a bit about myself. Safer streets and stronger communities – that’s my mission and I want to assure you I will be doing everything within my power to work towards this.

I have spent my life fighting for our communities and I relish the chance to continue that work as PCC.

I bring people’s experiences and stories with me, and I want to be known as a champion for everything that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our police service and improve people’s quality of life.

As a former youth justice worker and councillor, I have decades of experience representing people and developing policy and I want to make sure the people of our area feel safe, protected and supported.
I’ve had some good initial meetings with the Chief Constable and I have set out my overarching vision for a bigger policing presence.

I look forward to working alongside her and as well as so many other professionals working across our victim and youth services, councils, transport, schools and many others supporting our police to:
  1. Reduce serious and violent crime
  2. Tackle anti-social behaviour
  3. Strengthen neighbourhood policing
  4. Communicate and listen to you
  5. Fight for properly funded police and public services
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be listening, and I’ll be learning - what needs are being met and what aren’t. I’ll be consulting with the public and those we work with as well as our hard-working officers and staff.  I will then develop a plan that builds on existing success and sets out new ways to tackle the challenges and push Northumbria Police to be the best it can be.

I will, of course, keep you updated, and I ask that you also do the same with me. Please keep in touch and drop the office an email (enquiries@northumbria-pcc.gov.uk) sharing your ideas and experiences.

Best wishes,
Susan
