FEBRUARY 2022
Don't miss out on having your say.

When I launched my 'Fighting Crime, Preventing Crime' Plan last year my priorities were clear. Since then a lot has happened. My Violence Reduction Unit has expanded, a Safer Transport Northumbria App has been launched and we have smashed Government recruitment targets.

But as promised, a year on, I feel it’s really important to check in with you again and make sure the priorities you wanted for Northumbria Police to focus on are still the right ones. So, if you could complete this survey and share your thoughts it would help me refresh the plan and ensure it meets the needs of you, your family and your community.

Take care,
Kim

PREVENTING CRIME

WOMEN'S SAFETY

Look out for our new Fun without Fear campaign that went live this week. The campaign speaks up for the rights of women when they are out at night and aims to promote behaviour change in men, encourage reporting and signpost victims to help and support.

The project has been devised with Rape Crisis Northumberland and Tyneside and all 6 local authority partners. It features vulnerability training for those working in the night time economy - delivered by Northumbria Violence Reduction Unit and the expansion of Northumbria Police’s Operation Cloak, which protects vulnerable party-goers and catch offenders.

FIGHTING CRIME

SAFER TRANSPORT

Big thanks to everyone who has downloaded the Safer Transport Northumbria App. It’s been a truly regional effort to get the app up and running and it’s getting great feedback. People want public transport to be reliable, affordable and safe too and improving reporting and access to help and support has to be a great step in making our transport links the safest in the country. Download it here.

IMPROVING LIVES

LET'S RECLAIM OUR PARKS!

I've made a £110K pot of funding available to help promote park safety. We want to see family fun days, women’s safety parades, community clear-ups and park-based picnics. If you’re passionate about parks and want to be part of the change you can find more information here.

SPECIAL THANKS TO...

EDGE and Inspire Youth who have been doing a wonderful job engaging with young people on our public transport and promoting the safety app.
