Gladrags volunteers and attendees at this year's Aging Well Festival
Dear friends,

Welcome to our Autumn newsletter. We’ll be sharing with you our most recent costume stories including, our Christmas campaign and charity vintage clothes sale. You can also find out where you can see our costumes gracing the stages of local and national theatre.

We hope you’ll be inspired by the work we continue to do, bringing communities together through the transformational impact of costume.

Thank you so much for supporting Gladrags and making it possible for us to spread the magic of costume where it is most needed!

Sustainable Fashion Week

Did you join us at this year's fabulous Brighton Fashion Collective's Sustainable Fashion Week's marketplace, textile workshops, and runway extravaganza? If you did, you were part of our city's circular fashion conscious community - celebrating ethical and sustainable apparel.

We were overjoyed with the engagement we had to our vintage appareal and our collection of 'repair and refashion' clothing, all raising £900 of much needed funds. Our stand also shared information about the sustainable cycle of a Gladrags garment and how our costume provision provides an affordable and accessible costume service to Brighton and beyond.

The weekend was rounded off with a panel discussion around sustainability within the fashion world at Lewes Depot Theatre. Where Gladrags Director, Vania Mills was one of the speakers.

Thank you to all Gladrags volunteers who supported us and everyone who enabled this incredibly important event to take place. And to all the new friends we made.

Vintage Sales

If you’re trying to avoid the Black Friday rush and want to shop sustainably then we invite you to come to Circles Store on Saturday 30th and Sunday December 1st. Where we will be holding a Christmas vintage sale.

We’ll have a fabulous selection of winter and festive clothing for sale and all proceeds raised will enable our charity to continue providing affordable and accessible costume provision to those in need in our community.

Memories Matters: A Crowdfunder to Support Connection and Combat Isolation

Our Winter Warmer Appeal this year is raising funds to provide FREE reminiscence sessions for older people in our community.

We value the life stories and memories of our older community members. Our Memories Matters campaign honors these voices, offering a supportive environment that encourages shared experience and sociability.

Through immersive reminiscence activities, we’re not just listening to the past – we’re celebrating it together.

Please look out for our Crowdfunder Campaign that will run over the festive holidays.

Aging Well Festival

We were thrilled to be part of this years Aging Well Festival. We ran three events for older people in Whitehawk, Bristol Estate and Mouslecoomb.

Our theme was, Dress Through The Decades, igniting memories from the 1960s to the 1980s sparked by a wide selection of clothing and artefacts from our 8000+ costume and vintage fashion collection.

Attendees were able to select outfits and strike a pose in our photobooth and choose tracks from our vinyl collection that encouraged reminiscing of fond times gone by.

The Inclusivity of Costumes

Our huge breadth of costumes comes into its own supporting the 'Celebrating Diversity' event at Brighton MET. The event welcomed people who have English as a second language who may be seeking refuge and asylum in our City to share stories and make new friends.

Gladrags’s themed collection of unique costumes from around the world, providing a fun way for people of different cultures to engage with each other.

Thank you to one of our wonderful Gladrags volunteer Judith, who supported us at the outreach event at Brighton MET College.
