All aboard! Travel Buddies project expands thanks to additional funding

A project aimed at increasing peoples' confidence using public transport is now open to even more Fenland residents.

Fenland District Council's Travel Buddies project launched earlier this year thanks to Care Together funding from Cambridgeshire County Council. Aimed at residents aged 65 and over, it offers free days out to help people gain confidence using public transport and make new social connections.

Now the project is being expanded to offer opportunities to adults aged 40-64 that would benefit, thanks to extra funding from Greater Anglia's Customer and Community Improvement Fund.

Community safety events and advice
In our role as a member of Fenland Community Safety Partnership we highlight below some current key messages and events

Beware rental fraud

Rental fraud happens when would-be tenants are tricked into paying an upfront fee to rent a property.

In reality, the property does not exist, has already been rented out, or has been rented to multiple victims at the same time.

The victim loses the upfront fee they have paid and is not able to rent the property they thought they had secured with the payment.

Fraudsters create fake listings on legitimate rental platforms to lure victims into rental scams.

You, or someone you trust, should always view the property before you make payment.

Protect yourself from pension fraud

Savers and those reaching retirement age are being warned to protect their pensions and look out for criminals trying to trick people out of their life savings.

Action Fraud, with support from the Pension Scams Action Group (PSAG), launched a pension fraud awareness campaign, warning people to take extra measures to protect their pension scheme accounts and to be cautious of investment opportunity offers from criminals that could be targeting them.
