Cambridgeshire and Peterborough councils urge Government to make prompt Local Government Reorganisation decision
Council leaders across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough continue to press the Government for an early decision on Local Government Reorganisation proposals for the area.
The Government recently confirmed plans to reorganise local councils in 14 areas across the country, but said more time was needed before a final decision could be reached for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Government officials have confirmed that the information submitted in support of all four unitary options for our area was comprehensive, with no further evidence required.
New unitary councils are still expected to replace the seven existing county, district, city and unitary councils in our area from April 2028, providing all the council services you access.
While we wait for the Government’s announcement, existing councils will continue working together throughout the process, focused on securing the best outcomes for residents, communities and businesses.
We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more.
