Food waste collections have started!

Food waste collections began across Fenland this week (commencing Monday 7 September).

Your outdoor food waste caddy is collected every week, on the same day as your usual blue and green bin collections, making it easy to recycle your food waste. As caddies are collected by separate, dedicated food waste vehicles, they will be picked up at a different time to your other bins. Please leave your caddy out until it’s been collected.

You can check your bin collection days using our online calendar, or on the Fenland Bins app.

Government announces pause and review of plans for Local Government Reorganisation

The Government announced this week that its national plans to reorganise local government is on pause and under review.

The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Angela Rayner, confirmed in Parliament on Monday 7 September that ministers will review plans for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), following updated and privileged legal advice.

An announcement on the future of local government in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough had been expected in October 2026, with proposed new unitary authorities expected to replace the current district, city and county councils in April 2028.

The review will look at the LGR decisions announced in March 2026 for four areas, and in July 2026 for 14 areas. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and West Sussex, where decisions have not yet been taken, will be considered as part of the review.

As a result, local elections in May 2027 will take place on our existing boundaries.
